New Mercedes Raises Question: What’s The Right Amount Of Driving Automation Now?

Technological innovation is nothing new to the brand with the three-pointed star. Ever since Karl Benz drove his Patent Motorwagen for the first time more than 130 years ago, Mercedes-Benz has been a technological pioneer. Along with pioneering engine technologies like diesel and direct injection, active safety has been at the heart of the brand. From the debut of the first electronic anti-lock brakes in 1978, the Mercedes-Benz S-class has consistently been the launch platform for these technologies and the 2018 edition takes another step closer to automated driving. After a week in the refreshed S560, I have to ask, is this a step in the right direction? Read the rest of the article over at Forbes.com Wheel Bearings has launched a Patreon. Toyota Prius Prime Gets The Plug-in Hybrid Right, Now About That Design

Ok, let’s immediately deal with the elephant in the room. The Toyota Prius Prime is not an attractive vehicle. In fact, to my eyes, it’s quite homely. Now that we have that out of the way, I’ll leave the aesthetic judgements to your own tastes and move on to how Toyota’s sophomore effort at a plug-in version of its icon works. While the first-generation Prius PHV was a bit of a swing and a miss, the functionality this time is in most respects a home run. 2017 Hespen Rally Photo Gallery

The 2017 Hespen Rally took place on August 7, 2017 to honor the memory of our friend and colleague Patrick Hespen and raise money for the cholangiocarcinoma foundation. Even if you couldn’t join us at the rally, you can still contribute toward finding a cure for this cancer.  http://cholangiocarcinoma.org/ We were fortunate to have amazing photographer Steven Pham hanging out of the window of a Maxima provided by Nissan to grab some incredible images of the rally. You can find more of Steven’s work and hire him at http://www.stevenphamphoto.com/ [portfolio_slideshow] Wheel Bearings has launched a Patreon. Old And New Mazda Miatas Demonstrate Why Driving Matters

In the span of my time so far on this planet, I’ve seen a lot of “sporty” car models come and go. Few have lasted for more than a couple of product generations and they have often evolved into something far different than the original design brief as manufacturers have tried to appeal to a broader market. For many, the carmaker simply couldn’t make the business case to justify the engineering expense to keep it around. The one exception that has somehow stayed remarkably true to its original premise despite coming from a comparatively small brand is the Mazda MX-5 Miata. I recently got to spend time with the latest Miata iteration and compare it to one of the very earliest examples, a low-mileage 1990 that I personally own.
