In the news, GM is considering building a small electric pickup truck and we compare car sizes over time. Car loans are getting longer and shockingly Tesla faked the 2016 “Paint It Black” full self-driving demo video. We also answer listener questions. This week Sam went through two vehicles that are basically the same, internal combustion engine, 4 wheels, 4 doors plus a hatch and neat paint jobs, the Toyota Corolla Hatchback and the Maserati Levante Trofeo. One is slightly more expensive than the other. Nicole has been driving Mazda MX-5 RF and Robbie is still foregoing new cars while he catches up on a backlog of reviews In the news, VW has started US production of the ID.4 with a new cheaper standard model with less range and more screen. VW is also confirmed as the customer for the $4 billion lidar order from Innoviz and GM is doubling the number of roads where Super Cruise can be used. Toyota has just barely started selling the bZ4X and is already considering a buyback. Sam spoke with Hyundai’s VP of Product and Mobility Olabisi Boyle and we… Read More »How Much For The Paint?

This week in the garage, Nicole has the first of a pair of very different three-row crossovers. First up is the Toyota Highlander. Next week she will have something just a bit louder. Sam shares his thoughts on the turbocharged Mazda3 hatchback and despite still being on winter tires, it impresses. Dan wraps up his time with the new Acura MDX and discovers it is quite different from most of its direct competition and he also gets a taste of the new Lincoln Nautilus Black Label with its 13-inch touchscreen In the news, we discuss the US launch of the Mazda MX-30 and the return of the Wankel rotary as a range extender. GM launches a new cloud-based navigation app for recent OnStar users that don’t have built-in navigation and aren’t using the maps from their smartphones. This week in the garage, Rebecca raves (mostly) about the 2021 Toyota Camry TRD V6 sedan and Dan has decidedly mixed feelings about the Lincoln Aviator Black Label before jumping back into the Chevy Bolt to demonstrate that it has plenty of range capability. Sam catches up on a backlog with the 2021 Nissan Titan which is improved, but is it enough? Sam also had his first experience in the Cadillac Escalade since he reviewed a hybrid back in 2009. This time around he’s genuinely impressed although he’s not sure the augmented reality instrument cluster display is a great idea. In the news, there were big EV battery announcements from GM and LG Chem with a lot more production capacity on the way as well as the potential for cells with double the energy density. Finally, Jeep introduced its new full-size body-on-frame SUVs, the Wagoneer… Read More »Ch-Ch-Changes

Rebecca is back from a little vacation where her scheduled ride got swapped out at the last minute. Instead of a minivan, she did a multi-hundred mile road trip with three girls in the Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400. She also got to revel in the joy that is the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe. Sam meanwhile took his turn in the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with its solar roof before stepping into the new Toyota Highlander. Dan got to live the life of a man of the people in the latest Nissan Versa. In the news this week, its all about electrification with the Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400 and its seven motors. Then we got word that GM is teaming up with EVGo to deploy 2,700 DC fast charging stations in urban and suburban locations and we discuss the logic behind the move. The show… Read More »How To Expand The EV Market

After a week off, we have an extended length show to make up for it. Dan drives a very expensive Ford F-150 and a sportier Acura MDX A-Spec. Sam goes from the not really a crossover Toyota C-HR to the ginormous Genesis G90.
