This week in the garage, Roberto has the 2021 Cadillac Escalade, Sam is driving the one of the last traditional full-size sedans in America, the Toyota Avalon Hybrid and Nicole is in the improved and refreshed 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. In the news, while Robbie was in Europe, he also got to try out the new Mercedes-Benz Drive Pilot system, a level 3 conditional automation system that let’s you go hands off and eyes off, but you can’t take a nap yet. Stateside, Sam tried out a prototype of the updated 2022 GMC Sierra with Super Cruise that let’s you go hands-free while towing a trailer but you have to keep eyes on the road. In the world of truly self-driving cars, Argo AI is teaming up with Lyft to deploy robotaxis in Austin and Miami. This week Roberto reconfirms yet again that the Honda Ridgeline is all the truck that most regular people ever need (although it could use more braking performance) as he drives it and uses it to tow the Honda Talon. Robbie also shares his thoughts on the Polestar 2 and its Android Automotive infotainment system. Nicole spends time with opposite ends of the utility vehicle spectrum, the Subaru Forester and the refreshed Nissan Armada. Sam also gets back into a big SUV, returning to the 2021 Cadillac Escalade, this time focusing on the new second-generation Super Cruise system. In the news, as Lotus prepares to end the 25 year run of the Lotus Elise and its offshoots, it has put the tooling up for sale for anyone that wants to continue building this amazing sportscar. Tesla drops radar from the Model 3 and Y and we… Read More »Wanna Buy A Sports Car Assembly Line?

This week in the garage, Rebecca raves (mostly) about the 2021 Toyota Camry TRD V6 sedan and Dan has decidedly mixed feelings about the Lincoln Aviator Black Label before jumping back into the Chevy Bolt to demonstrate that it has plenty of range capability. Sam catches up on a backlog with the 2021 Nissan Titan which is improved, but is it enough? Sam also had his first experience in the Cadillac Escalade since he reviewed a hybrid back in 2009. This time around he’s genuinely impressed although he’s not sure the augmented reality instrument cluster display is a great idea. In the news, there were big EV battery announcements from GM and LG Chem with a lot more production capacity on the way as well as the potential for cells with double the energy density. Finally, Jeep introduced its new full-size body-on-frame SUVs, the Wagoneer… Read More »Ch-Ch-Changes

This week on the show you’ll be shocked to learn that we have more utility vehicles in the garage. Sam kicks off the discussion with the 2021 Kia Telluride SX. While it shares its architecture with the Hyundai Pallisade, it looks and feels distinctly different and will appeal to a different customer. Meanwhile in Connecticut, Rebecca gets her turn in Ford’s new EV, the 2021 Mustang Mach-E. Up the road in Boston, Dan has been putting in time in the brand-new Cadillac Escalade and shockingly he doesn’t hate the 37-inches worth of display. We mostly skipped the news this week to focus on answering a backlog of listener questions (please keep those coming, we love to hear from you). One bit of news did creep in, the big Ford-Google cloud/android deal. We also address questions about built-in dash-cam functionality, used EVs for teenagers, a listener’s… Read More »Electric Vehicles for Teenagers

On this edition of Wheel Bearings, we have another special guest, Alex Roy, co-host of the No Parking podcast, cannonballer, and director of special operations at Argo AI. In the garage, Alex shares his thoughts on getting back into his 1987 Porsche 911 Targa followed by Dan gushing about the new Cadillac Escalade and the Genesis GV80. Over in Connecticut, Rebecca has been digging the Audi A6 AllRoad, proving again that wagons are the best automotive form factor that isn’t a sports car. As a Tesla owner and employee of a company building automated driving systems, Alex has opinions on both topics that he shares with us. His appearance was particularly timely, coming just days after Tesla revealed a refresh of the Model S and Model X interiors that is to say the least controversial. The efficacy of a steering yoke rather than a circular… Read More »The Three-Wheel Driver

This week Rebecca and Sam record another in-person show in two parts. The show starts at the Delta lounge at LAX and finishes in the windy city for the biggest little auto show in America. Cadillac has taken the wraps off the 2021 Escalade which should be on track to remain the most popular full-size luxury SUV in America. With independent rear suspension, more passenger and cargo space, massive OLED displays, Super Cruise and even an optional diesel engine it has plenty to offer. Speaking of plenty to offer, check out the GMC Hummer EV. Yes, the Hummer name is back on GM’s first electric pickup truck coming in 2021. With 1,000-hp and 0-60 in 3 seconds, it should be an able challenger in the burgeoning electric truck market. From LA, the show shifts to Chicago with some of the show highlights including the Ford… Read More »Ep 139 – Live From LA and Chicago

The whole crew is back with both Dan and Rebecca sampling the aging Acura MDX A-Spec. Dan also had the Honda CR-V Touring. Since our last team gathering, Rebecca and Sam both drove the Mazda CX-30 and declare it the best small crossover. Sam has also been driving the Volvo V60 T5 and the Hyundai Santa Fe. In the news, GM has launched the first of its new generation of full-size SUVs from Chevrolet and Cadillac declares the ICE age over as it plans to go electric with new model names.
